Silk Road Archaeology Cooperative Research Center and Xixian New Area Cultural Relics Bureau Fengdong Branch to build a comprehensive archaeological internship base signing and unveiling of the plaque

On the morning of July 16, the signing and unveiling ceremony of the archaeological comprehensive internship base jointly built by Silk Road Archaeology Cooperative Research Center and FENGDONG Branch of Xixian New Area Cultural Relics Bureau and the launching ceremony of the Center's 2023 National Outstanding College Students Summer Camp were held in the archaeological camp of FENGDONG New City. Liu Zhongyang, member of the Party committee and deputy director of the management committee of Fengdong New City, Shangguan Weiping, director of the Fengdong Branch of the Cultural Relics Bureau of Xixian New Area, Wang Xiaoqing, researcher of the Institute of Archaeology of the Institute of Archaeology of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and leader of the joint archaeological team of the Taiping site, Wang Jianxin, chief scientist of the Center, Shi Xiang, assistant director, Wang Yingying, executive deputy director, representatives of the teachers and students from the College of Heritage, the Center, and all the campers of the summer camp participated in the ceremony.

Liu Zhongyang said in his speech that Fengdong New City of Xixian New Area has a long history and rich cultural heritage. I hope that the center and the signing and unveiling of the comprehensive internship base as an opportunity to promote the depth of cooperation between the school and the integration of development, in the subject of cooperative research, cultural heritage protection, cultural relics and archaeological technology innovation results of further in-depth cooperation, and to make greater contributions to the archaeology of the Silk Road and the protection of cultural heritage.

Speech by Wang Xiaoqing, researcher of the Institute of Archaeology, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and leader of the joint archaeological team of Taiping site

Wang Xiaoqing introduced the basic situation of Taiping site and archaeological camp. He also said that Fengdong New City Archaeological Camp is a leading domestic and world-class archaeological base, which provides a perfect and comprehensive learning and living environment, and he hoped that all the students attending the summer camp would learn and gain something.

Speech by Wang Jianxin, Chief Scientist of the Center

Wang Jianxin expressed his gratitude to the leaders at all levels of Fengdong New City who supported the construction of the center's archaeological internship base, and welcomed the students who participated in the summer camp. Northwest University has a long history of Silk Road archaeological research, rich achievements and international influence. We hope that all the students will enhance their understanding of the Center through the summer camp activities, and welcome them to engage in the archaeological research on the Silk Road and contribute to the internationalization of national archaeology.

Signing and Unveiling of Archaeology Comprehensive Internship Base

Afterwards, Shangguan Weiping and Shi Xiang signed the agreement on the establishment of the comprehensive archaeology internship base and jointly unveiled the plaque for the base. After the ceremony, Prof. Wang Jianxin gave an academic lecture entitled “The Past, Present and Future of Chinese Archaeology” to all participants.

Building a comprehensive archaeological internship base with the Fengdong Branch of the Cultural Relics Bureau of Xixian New Area and holding a summer camp for national outstanding college students are important initiatives for the Center to implement the main responsibility of postgraduate cultivation, improve the quality of postgraduate enrollment, and cultivate a group of professionals who are interested in the archaeology of the Silk Road and the protection of cultural heritage. The summer camp will last until the 27th of this month, during which the center will arrange outdoor excavation, indoor finishing, academic lectures and visits and other activities.
