Journal of Cultural Heritage

The Journal of Cultural Heritage (JCH) is a multidisciplinary scientific and technical journal aimed at the broad study of the preservation and understanding of cultural heritage.The main objective of JCH is to publish original papers, which include previously unpublished data, and to present innovative approaches to all scientific aspects related to heritage science.
The journal aims to provide a platform for scientists from different disciplines who share the common goal of developing and applying scientific methods to improve research and knowledge of cultural heritage, especially in the following areas:
- Protection, conservation and exploitation of cultural heritage;
- heritage management and economic analysis
- computer science in cultural heritage
- Sustainable development and cultural heritage;
- Impact of climate change on cultural heritage and its management.
Specifically, papers should address the following topics:
1. analysis, knowledge and conservation of heritage assets, development:
- New or analytical methods for the study of heritage composition, provenance, age, state of conservation;
- New materials and methods for the conservation of heritage assets and their evaluation;
- Assessment of degradation mechanisms and prediction of possible decay processes.
2. Conservation of built heritage (historic buildings, monuments and archaeological sites, modern and industrial buildings):
- Analysis of historical materials and building techniques;
- Novel inspection, testing and monitoring techniques;
- Novel or multidisciplinary analysis of materials and structures;
- Energy efficiency and renovation.
3. Innovative research on the interaction between heritage and the environment (climate, microclimate, light, pollution, volatile organic compounds ......). Innovative research on interactions between heritage and the environment (climate, microclimate, light, pollution, volatile organic compounds ), including climate change impacts, cultural heritage risk assessment and mitigation. 4.
4. digital technologies for knowledge, conservation and restoration, in particular
- Multimodal digitization (3D scanning, photogrammetry, multispectral imaging, X-rays, terahertz imaging ......) and data fusion;
- Heterogeneous data analysis, modeling, interlinking and browsing;
- Semantic-aware representation of multidimensional digital artifacts;
- Virtual, augmented and mixed reality environments;
- The digital continuum (from digitization to fabrication);
- Long-term preservation of digital assets.
5. economic research on the economics and management of heritage assets and cultural organizations; articles must use scientific research methods (e.g. econometric and statistical analysis, economic modelling ......) The articles must use scientific research methods (e.g. econometric and statistical analysis, economic modeling ) and report on innovative research to address economic issues in this field. 6.
6. museum conservation and museum collection management and improvement techniques.
Research should be multidisciplinary and preferably interdisciplinary, possibly spanning some of the above categories.
The Journal of Cultural Heritage is interested in papers that
- Reporting significant advances in scientific methods and techniques;
- present multidisciplinary research
- address issues of broad/global concern;
- Review papers dealing with specific topics presenting the latest 'state of the art'.
Articles must be suitable for a wide range of readers and be of keen interest; therefore, it is expected that the number of articles dealing with case studies will be reduced in favor of original articles. Papers relating to the application of a well-established technique to reveal a problem of local interest, or papers based on subjective observations or descriptive approaches, are not welcome in this journal. Reports on restoration/conservation activities should be avoided unless they have specific technical or scientific novelty.
Occasionally, thematic publications will be published as general issues or supplements.
